Sources from Buckingham Palace stated that the king's treatment "is moving in a positive direction", and that "as a controlled condition, the treatment cycle will continue in the next year".The sources added that there is optimism, and that this can be seen in King Charles' desire to continue with numerous public duties, including those during the holidays.Buckingham Palace announced in February that King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer and was beginning treatment. In the very beginning, the King made the decision to speak openly about his diagnosis and experience, believing that it could help others suffering from this serious disease. However, to this day, it is not known exactly which cancer he is suffering from, and this is allegedly hidden in order not to reduce attention to other cancers and diseases. It is also not disclosed what kind of treatment the king underwent, but it is known that he regularly went to private doctors in London.Dame Laura Lee, chief executive of cancer charity Maggie's - of which Queen Camilla is patron - said it was very common for treatment to take a very long time."Like the treatment that the Princess of Wales went through, which is an intense period of treatment for a year, and then it gets to the point where it's over, and she's now recovering from some of the effects of her treatment. So we have immunotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery, hormone therapy. There are various types of treatment, and that's why it's not surprising at all," Lee said.Speaking more broadly about the openness of both the King and Princess of Wales, she added:"What we heard from visitors to our center was that it was good that they didn't just shine a light on one specific type of cancer, but shine a light on cancer as a whole, and that there are different treatments and different impacts and different ways of managing the challenges that cancer brings. And I think that approach has been much more effective and positive for the cancer community. I know firsthand that they are so grateful that they did it."
