Ukrainians will defend their sky - copying the Serbian army

In itself, this missile system can hardly meet the demands of modern warfare. It was developed by the Soviet Union in the 1950s. It has been put in service in 1962. It has participated in almost every war from the 1960s to the present, but if Ukraine uses the S-125, it will be its first documented participation in a war in Ukraine.

Air Defense S-125 can be both a fixed and a mobile system that transports Russian ZIL infantry fighting vehicles. This system was created to replace the even older air defense system S-75. The S-125 can use three types of missiles.

The V-600 is a very short range missile of only 15 km. The warhead of this rocket weighs 60 kg and it belongs to the HE type, i.e. high explosive. The 5V27 is another type of missile that has a 70 kg warhead. The warhead of this missile consists of a high-explosive substance and explosive fragments. The range is greater than the previous one, up to 35 km. The third rocket is a modification of the second - 5V27D. There is very little information about it, but in general the range of the missile remains the same as the previous one, up to 35 km.

All missiles have the so-called CLOS (command to line-of-sight) guidance system, i.e. the missile is guided by angular coordinates between it and the target. To hit, the launcher must visually see the target, and any deviation of the projectile from this line is corrected. However, even though it is considered obsolete, this missile system is legendary. What made it a legend is the fact that the Serbian army shot down the "F-117A Nighthawk" stealth fighter with this missile during the NATO aggression against our country.

Therefore, it is not surprising that the Ukrainian army decided to give this air defense system a chance in order to protect its skies from modern and superior Russian fighters and bombers.
