The court in Bari, Italy, cleared Miroslav Ivanisevic of the cigarette smuggling charges, said reports. He was accused of involvement in international cigarette smuggling during his tenure as president of the Senate of the Montenegro State Audit Institution. Ex-Djukanovic official cleared of smuggling charges The judge at the preliminary hearing, Rosa Calia di Pinto, concluded that Ivanisevic was just working in line with Montenegrin laws and that he was not part of any mafia organization, writes Podgorica daily Vijesti. The newspaper states that the prosecutors with the Bari regional anti-mafia directorate, Giuseppe Scelsi and Eugenia Pontassuglia, asked for a guilty verdict and a three years and four months prison sentence for Ivanisevic. The court did not hold hearings for the remaining eight indictees, among whom are Branko Vujosevic, Veselin Barovic, Stanko Subotic, Andrija Draskovic, Branislav Micunovic and Dusanka Jeknic-Pesic. The indictment against Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic was dropped when he called on his immunity during his testimony in March 2008.
