The number of victims is growing; Black boxes found in the wreckage of the plane: Cause of tragedy revealed
Black boxes from the American Airlines plane that crashed into the Potomac River near Washington after colliding with a military helicopter are now in National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) laboratories for examination.

The NTSB announced that two black boxes were recovered from the wreckage of the plane in the Potomac River, CNN reported.
NTSB member Todd Inman told Reuters earlier that the board was confident it would be able to recover data from the black boxes. At the time of the plane crash, one air traffic controller was working two positions in the control tower, a source told the US television network.
The source said it was unusual for one controller to manage both local and helicopter traffic.
The New York Times, which first reported the details, said an internal, preliminary report from the Federal Aviation Administration said there were not enough staff for the time of day and the volume of traffic.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Board has opened an investigation and will look at a wide range of potential causes of the crash. A government source familiar with the investigation told CNN that the airport's control tower supervisor made the decision to combine the two controller roles Wednesday night, which they can do at their own discretion when air traffic volumes are light.
The source said that there was no shortage of staff at the control tower. US President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House on Thursday that no one survived the crash. At least 40 bodies have been found so far. There were 64 people in the plane, and three in the military helicopter.
Growing number of victims
The Chinese Embassy in the US announced that two Chinese citizens were among the victims of a collision between a passenger plane and a helicopter in Washington, DC, near Ronald Reagan National Airport.
The Chinese embassy said it deeply regrets all the victims and expresses its sincere condolences to their families, Xinhua reports.
The embassy asked the American side to determine all the details of the incident that happened on Wednesday evening and formally notify the Chinese side, as well as to provide assistance to the families of the victims in dealing with the consequences. The statement said that the embassy will also offer consular protection and assistance within its jurisdiction.
