The 51st state of America? No way

Let's recall that US President Donald Trump called on the US to take control of that Danish territory.

A survey conducted by the Verian agency, and requested by the Danish newspaper "Berlingske", showed that only six percent of Greenland's citizens are in favor of joining the US, while nine percent are undecided, "The Guardian" writes.

The poll came as Denmark's prime minister, Mette Frederiksen, said Europe must "stick together" in the face of changing relations with the US, during a tour of Berlin, Paris and Brussels.

"I want to make sure that Europe is united, not only in relation to the Kingdom of Denmark, but also more broadly," Frederiksen said after a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Since his re-election, Trump has often reiterated his interest in taking over Greenland, which is controlled by Denmark but has a high degree of autonomy.

In a statement on Air Force One on Saturday, Trump said he "thinks he's going to get it," claiming that Greenland's 57,000 citizens "want to be with the United States."

Meanwhile, Trump refused to rule out the possibility of using military force to take over Greenland, which is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, which still controls the island's foreign policy and defense.

Last week, Denmark announced plans to strengthen its sovereignty in the Arctic, including acquiring new ships and drones, to demonstrate its ability to defend Greenland.
