A fire broke out on the fourth floor of a hotel in Kartalkaya Ski Resort in Bolu early Tuesday morning, and firefighters are still working to put it out, Bolu Governor Abdulaziz Aydin told state broadcaster TRT.

The fire spread quickly due to the hotel's wooden exterior, Turkish media reported. Many fire departments and emergency crews were sent to the scene. According to the first reports, the Anadolu agency announced, the people staying in the hotel were evacuated due to the fire.

In a statement published online on the X platform by Governor of Bolu, Abdulaziz Aydin, the area to which the ski resort belongs, it is stated that 85 vehicles, including 30 fire engines and 28 ambulances, and 231 staff members sent from public institutions and organizations in Bolu and surrounding provinces participated in extinguishing the fire.

"Firefighting continues continuously, and the injured have been sent to hospitals in the province for treatment," the statement said.

Governor Aydin told the correspondent of Anadolu Agency that, according to the first reports, the fire broke out on the first floor, in the hotel restaurant around 03:30 a.m. Aydin, who stated that the fire spread from the restaurant, said that two people were killed in the fire.

"Two people died when they jumped out of the hotel window in panic. One was a hotel employee, and the other was a guest. We are working on the identification of the third person. The firefighting intervention continues," said Aydin. At the time of the fire, the twelve-story hotel was almost 90 percent full, considering that the ski season is in full swing, meaning that more than two hundred guests were registered at the hotel.

He said that the cause of the fire was not immediately known, but that the authorities would investigate, adding that the fire broke out on the floor of the restaurant. There were 234 guests in the hotel, the governor added.
