Turnaround; It's not the end!
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office accused Hamas of making new demands at the last minute, trying to win additional concessions from the Israeli side.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office claims that Hamas has reneged on some parts of the deal and is creating a "last-minute crisis" in finalizing the deal on the release of hostages and a ceasefire in Gaza.
"Hamas is reneging on the deal and is creating a last-minute crisis that is preventing the agreement," the Israeli Prime Minister's office said in a statement, the Times of Israel reports.
"Hamas is trying to dictate which Palestinian prisoners will be released," Netanyahu said, adding that, contrary to the agreement, the identities of terrorists responsible for mass crimes are being demanded.
It was also stated that the Israeli government will not meet to confirm the agreement until the mediators inform Israel that Hamas has accepted all elements of the agreement.
Hamas: We are committed to the ceasefire agreement
A senior official of the Palestinian group Hamas, Izzat el-Risheq, said today that the group is committed to the ceasefire agreement, Reuters reported today.
Let us recall that yesterday, after 15 months of conflict in Gaza, Israel and Hamas reached an agreement on a ceasefire and the release of hostages in Gaza. US President Joseph Biden officially announced yesterday that Israel and Hamas have reached an agreement on a truce and the release of hostages that will end the conflict in Gaza and increase humanitarian aid to Palestinian civilians. And Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani said the deal would come into force on Sunday after it was approved by the Israeli government.
The deal includes an initial phase of a six-week ceasefire, as well as a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces and the release of hostages held by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israel.
Benjamin Netanyahu last night thanked US President-elect Donald Trump and outgoing President Joseph Biden for helping secure a ceasefire with Hamas that would lead to the release of hostages, the first public confirmation from the Israeli government that Israel had accepted a US-Qatari ceasefire in exchange for the release of the hostages, which was to take effect on Sunday.
