Nearly 50 arrests during Los Angeles fire: Theft, vandalism and illegal drones
Nearly 50 people have been arrested on charges related to looting, obstructing firefighting and vandalism during fires in the Los Angeles suburbs of Eaton and Palisades, and arrests were also made in connection with the drone incident, Los Angeles police said.
The Los Angeles Police Department made 14 arrests in the city, Assistant Police Chief Dominic Choi said, CNN reported.
"Three (arrests) were for curfew, one for impersonating a firefighter, one for possession of burglary tools, four for burglary, one for driving under the influence of alcohol, one for vandalism and three for shoplifting," Choi said.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office made 34 arrests, according to Sheriff Robert Luna, including four in the Palisades fire area overnight. Authorities have announced they will prosecute illegal drone flights after a civilian drone collided with a Canadian "Super Scooper" aircraft fighting the Palisades fire last week.
Several fires have been raging in Los Angeles County since last Tuesday, the largest of which were in Eaton and Palisades, in which thousands of residential units were burned or damaged, and according to the latest information, at least 24 people died in the fires, and a large number are missing.
