Macron's decision is awaited: France is getting a new prime minister today
French President Emmanuel Macron will appoint a new prime minister today, it was announced from the Elysée Palace.
Eight days after MPs voted no-confidence in Prime Minister Michel Barnier, Macron cut short a visit to Poland yesterday and was expected to announce his choice as prime minister upon his return in an effort to end months of political turmoil.
After his plane landed near Paris, it was announced, however, that he will wait until this morning to announce that decision.
The latest BFMTV poll showed that 61 percent of French people are worried about the political situation.
Macron has vowed to remain in office until his second term expires in 2027, despite the ouster of Prime Minister Barnier, who had only been in office for three months.
Among the main candidates who could replace Barnier are the leader of the centrist Democratic Movement party, François Bayrou, Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu and former center-left prime minister Bernard Cazeneuve, according to the BBC.
