Shock: Putin, what happened? Here's who Trump invited to the inauguration
US President-elect Donald Trump has invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend his inauguration next month, his new press secretary Caroline Leavitt confirmed today.
She said that Trump has invited Xi, but it is still "to be determined" whether the leader of the most important economic and military competitor of the USA will attend the inauguration.
"This is an example of how President Trump is creating an open dialogue with the leaders of countries that are not only our allies, but also our adversaries and our competitors," Caroline Leavitt told Fox News.
She said that this was already seen during his first mandate, the Associated Press reported.
"He is willing to talk to anyone and will always put America's interests first," Caroline Leavitt emphasized. She said other foreign leaders were also invited, but did not elaborate.
"The heads of missions of all countries in the US will also be invited," said an official from Trump's inaugural committee who did not want to be named. It is not yet known whether the Chinese President has accepted the invitation, and the country's embassy in Washington did not respond to a request for comment, reports Reuters.
Trump said in an interview with NBC News on Friday that he "got along very well" with Xi and had communicated with him during the week.
Newly elected US President Donald Trump did not send an invitation to Russian leader Vladimir Putin for his inauguration in January, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced.
"No, I'm not," Peskov told reporters in response to a question about the invitation, reports the Russian news agency TASS.
Trump has appointed a number of anti-China figures to key positions in his future administration, including Senator Marco Rubio as secretary of state.
The US president-elect has also announced that he will impose an additional 10 percent tariffs on Chinese goods if Beijing does not do more to stop the trade in the highly addictive drug fentanyl.
During the campaign, he threatened to impose tariffs of more than 60 percent on Chinese goods. Let us remind you that today the newly elected US President Donald Trump said that he is "very strongly" opposed to Ukraine using American-made missiles to target targets "hundreds of miles" away on the territory of Russia.
This was stated today by "Time" magazine, which declared Trump the person of the year.
"I am very strongly opposed to sending missiles hundreds of miles into Russia. Why are we doing that?" Trump asked while speaking to Time.
"We are only escalating this war and making it worse," he added.
The newly elected president of the United States of America criticized the level of support provided by the Biden administration to Ukraine and hinted that Kyiv should prepare to cut aid when he takes office in January. While he boasted many times during his campaign that he would end the war within 24 hours, Trump admitted to "Time" that the Russian invasion is even more complex than the situation in the Middle East.
"The number of dead young soldiers lying in fields everywhere is staggering. It's crazy what's happening," he said.
When asked if he would cut aid to Ukraine, Trump, instead of answering, said that he would use American aid as leverage to push the Kremlin to the negotiating table.
"I want to get a deal, and the only way you're going to get a deal is if you don't back down," Trump explained.
