It's revealed: Ukraine "involved" in Assad's downfall?
Syrian fighters last month received about 150 drones, as well as other covert support from Ukrainian intelligence operatives, weeks ahead of the rebel advance that ousted Bashar al-Assad at the weekend, the Washington Post reported.
Citing unnamed sources familiar with Ukrainian military activities, the Washington Post reported late Tuesday that Ukrainian intelligence had sent about 20 drone operators and about 150 drones four to five weeks ago to assist Hayʼat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
Russia's foreign ministry had previously said, without providing evidence, that the rebels had received drones from Ukraine and training on how to fly them, a charge that Ukraine's foreign ministry "categorically" denied at the time.
Russia, which is at war with Ukraine after invading that country in February 2022, is a key ally of Assad and provided him with military support in the country's 2015 civil war.
