One of the leading Russian intellectuals and philosophers, Aleksandr Dugin, reacted with harsh words to Turkey's move to oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad from power through the Islamist rebels HTS.

Dugin characterized that move as treason.

Quotations of Dugin's views were shared on social networks, although it was not specified when Dugin made this statement or on what occasion.

Namely, commenting on the events in Syria, Dugin pointed out that the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a "strategic mistake" and that he will now "pay for it".

The Russian theoretician went on to claim that "Syria has functioned or continues to function as a trap for Erdogan" as it has led him to betray Russia and Iran with his stance of supporting the extremist Muslim rebels who ousted Bashar Al Assad.

"Erdogan is doomed," added Dugin and confidently assessed that Ankara's stance on Syria will also mark "the beginning of the end of Turkey."

"Until now, we have supported you," Dugin stressed, adding that "from now on, Turkey will regret" what it did in Syria.

Let's recall that the Assad regime was overthrown in just a few days in the onslaught of Islamic rebels who were allegedly supported and armed by Ankara.

Assad fled the country thanks to Russia, which provided refuge to its long-time ally. It is not clear why the Russian president "let down the drain" the Syrian leader whom he practically had his back in Syria, although the majority of people speculate that the reason is the war in Ukraine and the huge losses that Russia has experienced.
