According to Korean Prison Service officials, Kim survived the suicide attempt and is currently in a high-security cell, Yonhap reported.

Kim was arrested on Wednesday, becoming the first person to be arrested as part of a wider investigation into President Yun Suk-yeol's botched decision to impose martial law, which has sparked political tensions in the country.

The police also raided the presidential palace and the offices of the Seoul Police and the Assembly. The South Korean president was not present at the time of the raid, and authorities are currently investigating Yun's decision to declare martial law, which lasted just six hours last week.

Although President Yun is legally immune from prosecution while in office, except in cases of sedition, the Senior Officials' Corruption Investigation Agency (CIO) has indicated that he could be arrested if certain conditions are met.

CIO chief  Oh Dong-woon said he would continue the investigation and, if necessary, seek an immediate or court-ordered arrest.
