Volodymyr practically said "no"
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky allegedly told the newly elected US President Donald Trump at a meeting in Paris that he requires security guarantees to end the war with Russia, reports Reuters.
That agency, citing sources familiar with the course of the meeting held on Saturday, December 7, stated that the meeting between Zelensky and Trump lasted 35 minutes and was not attended by advisers.
Trump, as further pointed out, reiterated his desire for a quick end to the conflict and the start of negotiations. Zelensky, on the other hand, pointed out that Ukraine cannot agree to a truce without adequate guarantees, because, as he said, Russia can easily violate any agreement, as it has already done in the past, according to Reuters.
President of Ukraine also said that a diplomatic solution would save lives, but that Ukraine cannot agree to peace without adequate guarantees.
While there were no concrete proposals for peace, one source said Trump was open to hearing "every detail."
Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron, who was also present at the meeting, agreed that US support is crucial for any lasting solution, given that Russian President Vladimir Putin considers "only Trump and possibly China" as serious adversaries on the international stage.
acron used the opportunity to present to Trump that European countries have already allocated significant aid for Ukraine and that they are ready to share the burden more evenly with the USA, adds the Reuters agency.
