France in a panic - they are afraid? Long barrels and the army on the streets PHOTO
A day after France decided to raise security to the highest level, following the terrorist attack in Moscow, long barrels, armed soldiers and police can be seen on the streets of Paris.
French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal said in a post on the X Network that the decision, which comes months before Paris is set to host the Olympics, comes in light of Islamic State's claim of responsibility for the attack in Russia and threats weighing on France.
The announcement came after French President Emmanuel Macron held an emergency security meeting sparked by Friday's attack in a Moscow suburb that killed at least 137 people, according to Russian investigators.
France's terror alert system has three levels, with the highest level activated after an attack in France or abroad or when a threat is deemed imminent.
It allows for extraordinary security measures such as increased patrols by the armed forces in public places such as railway stations, airports and places of worship.
France has been repeatedly hit by deadly jihadist attacks, including the massacre at the Bataclan concert hall in 2015 in which extremists opened fire on concertgoers and held hostages for hours.
The country was already on high security alert ahead of this year's Paris Olympics and Paralympics, which are expected to attract millions of visitors to the country.
Security concerns are particularly high because of the spectacular opening ceremony on July 26, which will include boat rides along the Seine River and huge crowds watching from the embankment.
A group of five terrorists, let's recall, broke into a concert hall in the northwest of Moscow on Friday around 20:00 Moscow time.
