"I think we have to face the fact that the Russians think they are at war with us," he said on Wednesday.

His statement comes days after Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned that Russia, in the context of its war in Ukraine, could escalate to the level of a "global conflict".

A real war

According to Dearlove, the conflict has already crossed the borders of Ukraine.

"Donald Tusk calls it a pre-war situation. I think he's wrong. I think it's a real war."

He then added that Russia is waging a hybrid war against Europe on multiple fronts, including sabotage and "very aggressive moves."

Index reminds that the directors of intelligence services in Europe, USA and Great Britain have already characterized Russia as "unpredictable", he said.
