The heads of diplomacy of the G7 countries are meeting
The G7 foreign affairs ministers will meet today in the city of Fuji, not far from Rome, and the main topics of discussion are expected to be the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Also, as announced, the arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued by the International Criminal Court last week will be discussed, reports AP.
As stated, at the meeting that brings together the heads of diplomacy of the USA, Canada, Italy, France, Germany, Great Britain and Japan, the focus will be primarily on efforts to achieve peace in the Gaza Strip.
These countries will be joined at today's meeting by the ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, as well as the Secretary General of the Arab League.
The so-called Quint, made up of the US, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt and the UAE, is working to finalize a plan for post-war Gaza, and the US agency says there is pressure to reach a truce before US President-elect Donald Trump takes office, due to his pro-Israel policies.
This is also the last meeting of the G7 diplomats that will be attended by officials from the outgoing US administration of President Joe Biden.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani added another item to the G7 agenda last week after the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Galant and slain Hamas leader Mohammed Deif.
As part of the commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the ministers will attend the unveiling of the red bench, which symbolizes Italy's focus on the fight against gender-based violence.
