What's happening in London? Airport evacuated, explosion, radioactive waste... PHOTO/VIDEO
London's Gatwick Airport has reportedly been evacuated, with passengers told to "exit immediately and stay away" while officers investigate the security incident.
"Gatwick Airport will be closed until further notice. Police and emergency services are on the ground dealing with the incident at the airport," it was announced.
A large part of the southern terminal of the airport was evacuated, and passengers were prohibited from entering, the British newspaper The Sun reported.
The airport said the evacuation was a "precautionary measure" while officers are investigating a "security incident".
Gatwick Airport said that the safety of passengers and staff is their top priority and that they are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
The airport recommended postponing travel, while an airport spokesman said purchased tickets would be accepted at no additional cost.
The airport announced that the investigation is ongoing.
The company "Gatwick Express", which offers fast transportation between the airport and central London, announced that its trains do not run to the airport, reports Sky News.
"Gatwick Airport will not be served until further notice," the company said on X.
Footage on social media taken outside the airport shows crowds of passengers moving away from the terminal building.
British media reports that local buses also do not run to the airport.
Two major incidents took place in London today.
The US Embassy was immediately closed due to a security threat, and as explained, the police carried out a controlled explosion in front of the US Embassy in London, after a suspicious package was found, reported the British Telegraph.
Another incident that rocked London today was waste, believed to be radioactive, found in rubbish bags near a primary school in Hammersmith.
A specialist unit blocked the street and evacuated residents from nearby homes warning them not to enter the street until the situation calmed down, and one neighbor said he could not return home after work because the street was blocked.
