Paris confirmed: The final decision has not yet been made
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said today that the option of France allowing Ukraine to use long-range missiles in attacks on Russian territory is "still on the table".
"We openly said that this is an option we would consider if it meant that they would target targets from where Russia is currently aggressing on Ukrainian territory. So, nothing new on the other side,'' he said ahead of the meeting of the heads of diplomacy of the EU member states, Reuters reported.
Earlier, the head of the European Union's diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that he hoped that the member states of the European Union would allow Ukraine to use long-range missiles for attacks in Russia.
"I repeated that Ukraine should be able to use the weapons we gave it, not only to 'stop the arrows', but also to hit the 'shooters'. I still believe that this is what must be done. I'm sure we'll talk again. I hope that the member countries will agree on that,'' Borrell said.
The French "Figaro", which announced as breaking news that the USA, and then Great Britain and France, gave the green light to Ukraine to use their long-range missiles to strike Russia, suddenly changed the text of the news.
However, the French influential newspaper changed the text of the news a little later during the night. Namely, the original news read that "the French and the British allowed Ukraine to strike deep into Russian territory using their SCALP / storm shadow missiles", and then on Monday morning a different version of the text appeared, which reads: "Debates are already 'raging' in the office about whether Ukraine should be allowed to use Western missiles against Russian territory. Emmanuel Macron declared for this during a state visit to Germany in May 2024."
The US media reported, as breaking news, that the outgoing US President Joseph Biden approved the use of their ATACMS missiles by Kyiv to target targets located deep in the territory of Russia, and the same decision was then made by Great Britain and France, which was reported by Reuters and Figaro, with the fact that those permits refer to the use of their SCALP / storm shadow missiles.
