It's been decided: The Fox News anchor is taking over the Pentagon
President-elect Donald Trump has appointed longtime Fox News anchor Pete Hegseth as the new Defense Secretary.
In a statement, Trump said that Hegseth is "strong, smart and truly believes in America", stressing that under his leadership the US military will be "great again" and will never give up, the Voice of America reported.
Trump added that Hegseth, as Secretary of Defense, will be instrumental in ensuring the country's security and sending a clear message to America's enemies.
Hegsett is a veteran of the National Guard, with experience gained in Afghanistan, Iraq and Guantanamo Bay.
Although he served in the army until 2021, he left the military service after being labeled as an extremist and was considered undesirable in the military ranks.
He wrote about it in his book "The War on Warriors: Behind the Betrayal of the Men Who Keep Us Free", in which he advocated radical changes in the leadership of the Pentagon.
In the book, Hegseth pointed out that many senior officials in the Pentagon need to be replaced and that the next president must make significant changes to ensure that the US military is better prepared to meet the challenges.
