That's it, Ukraine is splitting: Putin won?
US President-elect Donald Trump could try to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war against Ukraine.
Such an agreement would probably not be in the best interest of Europe or Ukraine, Czech President Petr Pavel said.
"Such an agreement will most likely not be in our (European) interest, nor in the interest of Ukraine. Because it is simply giving Russia a part of the occupied territories, with a message to Ukraine that it will not become a member of NATO for at least 20 years," Pavel said at the opening of the Prague summit defense of the IISS on Friday, the portal RBK Ukraine reports.
He added that Western support for Ukraine was not quick enough, which allowed Russian forces to advance.
According to him, Western supplies of military equipment and financial aid were insufficient to ensure Ukraine's victory.
He added that the situation on the front lines had reached "some kind of impasse", but that now "it is turning more in favor of Russia".
"And in this situation, it is difficult to motivate any side to negotiate," Pavel said. Pavel added that any peace deal, even if it leads to temporary cessions of some territories under Russian control before reaching a diplomatic solution in the future, should be negotiated with multiple parties, including China, India and Europe.
At the beginning of September, Donald Trump claimed that if he wins the election, he will invite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the agreement will be reached within 24 hours.
In addition, in the same month, Trump met with Zelensky, and the Ukrainian president presented him with his plan for victory. After those talks, Trump said he wanted a "fair deal for everyone", the Ukrainian portal recalls.
