Maia Sandu won the second presidential term
Moldovan President Maia Sandu won a second term in the second round of presidential elections, which took place on Sunday, according to preliminary data from the Moldovan Central Election Commission (CEC).
"Chisinau showed an extraordinary mobilization. An impressive and historic turnout of young people was recorded. More than 1,690,000 people voted. I understand that they voted for changes, changes that are expected in society, but I want you to know that I heard all the voices, including those who criticize," Sandu said in an address, Moldova's state news agency Moldpress reported.
After processing 98.42 percent of the election materials, 899,154 voters - which is 54.70 percent of the citizens who went to the polls - voted for Maia Sandu, while the socialist candidate Aleksandar Stojanoglo received 744,782 votes, or 45.30 percent of the votes.
In the second round of presidential elections, 1,697,047 voters voted, which is 54.28 percent of the total number of voters in that country, and the candidate with the majority of votes won.
