Red weather alarm: The situation is catastrophic; the number of dead is growing VIDEO
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will travel today to Valencia, the region hardest hit by the country's ongoing floods, which have killed at least 95 people.
He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and announced the government's support for the rehabilitation of the consequences of the floods.
Sánchez said that Spain will provide all possible help, and that, if necessary, the EU will also provide help. In the region of Valencia, around 155,000 consumers are currently without electricity, reports RTVE.
The government's delegate in Valencia, Pilar Bernabé, warned that the death toll was expected to rise, while the military emergency unit deployed more than 1,000 personnel in the region.
The Civil Guard said it deployed 750 agents and carried out 2,500 rescue operations.
Authorities also said a courthouse in the city of Valencia had been turned into a temporary morgue due to an expected surge in casualties.
On Wednesday, the Spanish government declared three days of mourning for the victims of the floods.
Authorities confirmed that 92 people died in Valencia province, one in Malaga province and two in Castilla-La Mancha, El Pais reported.
A red weather alert is in effect in Cádiz due to the risk of flooding, and in Valencia, floods and landslides swept away roads, buildings and cars.
"The process of rehabilitating and identifying the victims is starting," the local authorities announced today. The floods caused major disruptions to rail and air traffic across southern and eastern Spain.
"We are facing an unprecedented situation," the head of the regional government of Valencia, Carlos Mazón, told reporters today.
