Orbán has never been more direct: They are also at war

"There is an atmosphere of war in Brussels, rhetoric of war and the logic of war," Orbán said in an interview with Hungarian radio station Kossuth Rádió.

He added that Brussels is waging its own war against Moscow through the Ukrainian conflict, but that Hungary is not at war with Russia and that Budapest should be careful that "this war psychosis does not permeate it" and that it does not lose its ability to orient itself towards Hungarian national interests.  

''EU leaders speak as if they are waging their own war against Russia, "unlike us, who, although we are not indifferent to the human tragedy, are not a warring party," Orbán said.

When asked how far Western leaders are prepared to go in support of Ukraine, he said that there are now discussions about Germany sending Ukraine missile systems that can be used to target deep into Russian territory, perhaps as far as Moscow.

He also commented on ideas from NATO countries that the alliance intervene militarily in the Russian-Ukrainian war, and emphasized that this would threaten the development of a local conflict into a global conflict.
