Hezbollah elected a new Secretary General, after the previous one was killed.
As the media announced, the new first man of the Lebanese militant group is Sheikh Naim Qassem, who was the deputy secretary general of Hezbollah since 1991.
The previous Secretary General of Hezbollah, Hassan Naasrallah, was killed in a targeted Israeli attack on September 27.
In a statement by Hezbollah, it is emphasized that Qassem was chosen to take over the position of Secretary General of Hezbollah due to his "commitment to the principles and goals" of the group, Al Jazeera reported, adding that Qassem was chosen by the Shura Council.
Israeli media recently reported that Qassem allegedly fled to Tehran for fear of assassination, and that he left Beirut by plane on October 5. His transfer to a safer location was reportedly ordered by Iranian officials.
Since the death of Hassan Nasrallah, Qassem has given three major speeches in Beirut and Tehran. During his speech on September 30, Qassem emphasized Hezbollah's commitment to the election of a new leader and continued resistance to Israel.
