A catastrophic scenario follows
The situation in the Middle East is still "boiling". Israel continues to hit targets in Lebanon, but also in the Gaza Strip. Official Tehran announced revenge for the bombing of Iran.
However, the most serious situation concerns Israel's decision to ban the work of the UN organization in charge of helping Palestinian refugees, which is why the Gaza Strip is following a catastrophic scenario - starving to death.
"UNRWA is essential"
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres stated that the UN Agency for Aid to Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) is necessary and that there is no alternative for it, assessing that the implementation of the law adopted by Israel banning the agency would have disastrous consequences.
"Implementation of the law would be harmful to the solution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and to peace and security in the region as a whole," Guterres said last night, Reuters reported.
Guterres announced that he would draw the attention of the UN General Assembly to that issue.
Last night, the Israeli parliament passed two laws banning the work of UNRWA in Israel.
The first law states that UNRWA in Israel will no longer "manage any institution, provide any service or carry out any activity, directly or indirectly."
The second law refers to the termination of diplomatic relations with UNRWA. The ban on UNRWA does not apply to operations in the Palestinian territories or other countries.
2,672 dead
The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced earlier yesterday that the number of civilians killed since the start of Israeli attacks on Lebanon on October 7 last year has risen to 2,672, while 12,468 people have been wounded.
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah erupted a year ago when Hezbollah began launching rockets into the northern parts of Israel in order to support the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
The conflict has intensified over the past few weeks after Israel launched a ground offensive into Lebanon and began heavy strikes in the south of the country, the southern suburbs of Beirut and the Bekaa Valley.
Five hours of bombardment; Killing children and women
At least 62 people were killed and more than 200 were wounded yesterday in an Israeli attack on the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon, the leading daily in Lebanon, "Al-Nahar", reported.
According to the report, there are many civilian casualties in the bombing, including women and children.
Reuters also reported that at least 60 people were killed in the attack, citing eyewitnesses and the mayor of Baalbek city in Lebanon's Baalbek-Hermel province. This province, as stated by "Al-Nahar", was exposed yesterday to the most intense attacks since the beginning of the war.
The victims were in several cities, including Halania, Budai, Hfir, Junin, Ram, Alak. The intense attacks lasted about five hours and started yesterday morning.
