The CIA has a proposal for Hamas: Here are the details
The director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), William Burns, announced that he will propose a new cease-fire agreement to Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
The agreement includes a 28-day pause in the fighting during which eight hostages of the Palestinian militant group should be released in exchange for the release of dozens of Palestinians from Israeli prisons.
This was reported by the US portal Axios, citing three unnamed Israeli officials, stating that Burns discussed the matter during a meeting in Doha on Sunday with his Israeli and Qatari counterparts.
As part of the deal, Hamas would release "approximately eight women of all ages or men over the age of 50."
"Israel agrees to a temporary ceasefire, but Hamas wants a break that would open a process that would lead to a full Israeli withdrawal. If neither side softens its position, there will be no deal," said a senior Israeli official.
The portal states that the cease-fire agreement could break the two-month deadlock in the ceasefire talks and speed up negotiations to reach a more comprehensive agreement, as well as improve humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip.
