The Pentagon confirmed: 10,000 soldiers are going to fight, we have evidence
North Korea has sent about 10,000 soldiers to Russia to train and fight in Ukraine in the next few weeks, and there will be no restrictions on the use of American weapons against them, the Pentagon announced today.
Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said that some North Korean troops have already approached Ukraine and are believed to be moving towards Russia's border region of Kursk, where Russia is fighting to repel the Ukrainian incursion, AP reported.
Singh stated that there would be no restrictions on the use of US weapons against North Korean forces.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said today that certain North Korean military units are already in the Kursk region. Rutte told reporters in Brussels that the deployment of North Korean troops represented a "significant escalation" of Pyongyang's involvement in the conflict in Ukraine and a "dangerous expansion of Russia's war."
Rutte, on the other hand, did not reveal what kind of evidence this was at the press conference in Brussels, and only stated:
"Today I can confirm that North Korean forces have been sent to Russia, and that North Korean units have been deployed in the Kursk region." He said that it was a "serious escalation", and called on Pyongyang and Moscow to "immediately stop such actions".
"The deployment of the North Korean army means: firstly, a significant escalation, secondly - another violation of the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, and thirdly - a dangerous expansion of the Russian war. The deepening of military cooperation between Russia and North Korea is a security threat both in the Indo-Pacific region and in Euro-Atlantic. It undermines peace on the Korean peninsula and stimulates Russia's war against Ukraine," Rutte said.
Let us recall that earlier this year, Russia and North Korea signed the Agreement on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which includes the provision of mutual assistance, including military assistance, in the event of aggression against one of the parties.
Russian President Vladimir Putin recently, speaking on this topic, stated that a decision on military aid will be made when the time comes. He added that it is a decision that concerns only Russia and North Korea, which means that only they can determine the extent of that cooperation.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken will meet with their South Korean counterparts later this week in Washington.
Singh announced that Austin and South Korean Defense Minister Kim Jong-hyun will discuss the deployment of North Korean troops in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said at a NATO summit in October that "thousands" of North Korean soldiers are on their way to Russia. Zelensky said that based on the intelligence he received, 10,000 North Korean soldiers are preparing to be deployed in Ukraine on the Russian side.
South Korean media previously reported that North Korea will send a total of 12,000 troops to fight in Ukraine.
