As the Kyiv Post points out, over the weekend, the Ukrainian 47th Mechanized Infantry Brigade used American armored vehicles to carry out local counterattacks in the northeastern sector of the salient part of the Kursk Front.

Russia, as further recalled, launched a counterattack after Ukrainian forces entered its territory, pushing the Ukrainians back in some sectors.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine reportedly still control about 800 square kilometers of Russian territory, with the heaviest fighting in recent weeks taking place along the main roads leading to the Russian border town of Sudzha.

According to a statement by the Russian Ministry of Defense, that is, Group Sever from Tuesday, on Monday, Kyiv troops returned to the attack and pushed Russian combat forces into the villages, some 18 kilometers northwest of Sudzha.

According to the Kremlin's official report, the Russian defense repulsed the Ukrainian attacks led by the 47th Mechanized Brigade.

Kyiv forces suffered heavy losses, including 50 people, one infantry fighting vehicle and a tank, the Russian military said in a statement.

However, drone footage released on October 21 by the 47th Brigade, the unit that manages the US weapons, showed a different picture. The images show one Abrams tank and two Bradley infantry fighting vehicles advancing along a road inside the village and firing at buildings and possible Russian defensive positions.

Sometimes more than one vehicle concentrated fire on a single target. There was no visible Russian return fire, and the Kyiv Post states that geo-locating the images established that the fighting took place in the village of Novoivanovka, in the Kursk region of Russia.

The battle and news reports from Tuesday said Novoivanovka was effectively no man's land, with neither Russian nor Ukrainian troops permanently in control of the village.

Kremlin-loyal media reported in mid-October that the village had been completely liberated, but recent reports from Kyiv contradicted that claim.

According to a report by the RBK-Ukraine news agency on Tuesday, the Kremlin has set a "new" deadline for the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Russian territory by February 1, 2025, and it is stated that as many as 40,000 soldiers, supported by heavy weapons, will be engaged for this.
