Moldova decided: Loud and clear - NO!
In the referendum on EU membership, based on 23 percent of the votes counted, 57 percent of Moldovan citizens declared that they did not want their country to become a member of the European Union.
Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Moldova has gravitated between pro-Western and pro-Russian influences, but during her tenure, Sandu accelerated efforts to distance the country from Moscow, following its war in neighboring Ukraine.
At the same time, based on 14 percent of the votes counted in the presidential elections held today in Moldova, the current pro-Western president Maia Sandu won 34 percent of the votes, while her main rival, former prosecutor Alexandr Stoianoglo, who is backed by the traditionally pro-Russian Socialist Party, won 30 percent of voter support, it was stated on the website of the Central Election Commission.
The first results indicate that the winner of the presidential election will be known in the second round on November 3, Reuters reported.
11 candidates participated in the presidential elections.
