In 1999, Jackson's signature appeared on the Kumanovo Agreement, which ended the bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) after 78 days, and marked the beginning of the operation to establish the KFOR mission in AP Kosovo and Metohija, which he will lead as the first commander, according to the BBC.

In 1999, General Jackson clashed with the US supreme commander of NATO forces in Europe, General Wesley Clark, who ordered him to send forces to AP KiM to prevent a sudden advance of Russian forces heading towards the airport in Pristina.

Jackson then told Clark: "I'm not going to start World War III for you."

Jackson was the Chief of the General Staff of the British Army from 2003 to 2006, he was present in two significant incidents in Northern Ireland, and he led the army during the war in Iraq.
