Putin ready to destroy them: "Green light" means the Third World War?
Moscow will launch a contingency plan put forward by President Vladimir Putin in case Ukraine is given permission to use long-range missiles to strike Russia, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has warned.
"As soon as a decision is made, that is, the West allows Ukraine to use long-range missiles, if it is made, we will react in accordance with the plan for emergency situations," Lavrov said.
Commenting on the upcoming meeting of Kyiv's foreign arms donors, which Volodymyr Zelensky said was "historic", Lavrov stated that Moscow is not following statements on the issue because it already has a prepared answer.
Vladimir Putin previously warned that any such attack by Ukraine with long-range missiles supplied by the West would be treated by Moscow as a direct launch by NATO.
He suggested that Russia might arm Western enemies with similar weapons in response.
Kyiv has been asking the US and allies for months to lift a ban on striking deep inside Russia with their long-range weapons, blaming Western reluctance for its recent battlefield failures.
Zelensky hoped the ban would be lifted during his visit to the US last month, where he presented his "victory plan" to President Joseph Biden.
The Kremlin claims that the West is willing to "fight to the last Ukrainian" in order to harm Russia.
