Shock: Budanov was "written off"?
The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, Kyrylo Budanov, may soon be dismissed, and his successor has probably already been chosen, according to an unnamed source from the security services.
Namely, as the portal "Euromaidan" writes, the reason why Budanov could "resign" from a position that is one of the most crucial in the war with Russia is the conflict with the chief of staff of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak.
Commenting on the potential replacement of Budanov, an unnamed source from the security services told Euromaidan:
"Such a possibility is not excluded."
However, the same source denied rumors on social networks that the current head of GUR will be appointed as an ambassador to a foreign country, as was the case with the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Valery Zaluzhny.
The source speculates that the new head of GUR could be 55-year-old Oleh Ivashchenko, who currently serves as the head of Ukraine's foreign intelligence service.
Kyrylo Budanov, 38, has headed Ukraine's military intelligence service since August 2020. During the all-out war, the GUR carried out several successful operations against the Russians, such as destroying Russian Black Sea Fleet ships and ammunition depots.
In recent weeks, there has been political speculation about Budanov's potential replacement.
Member of Parliament Serhiy Rakhmanin suggested in an interview that this could be the result of strained relations between the head of the GUR and the chief of staff of the president, Andriy Yermak.
