Volodymyr, it will be scary...

As the war against Russia drags on, the "star power" of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington is noticeably fading, and this will have potentially dire consequences for Ukraine.

As the New York Times writes and reminds, when Zelensky visited the United States in December 2022, he was greeted by a large crowd of people, thunderous applause and an aid package worth almost 50 billion dollars. But as the war drags on, the Ukrainian president is getting a much more relaxed reception in Washington and facing angry questions from some Republicans.

The New York Times states that, unlike in 2022, only a few U.S. officials met with Zelensky in the USA, and that the Speaker of the House of Representatives ignored him.

It is recalled that Ukraine is currently receiving military aid from the US as part of a package worth nearly 61 billion dollars, which was approved by Congress in the spring.

On September 26, US President Joe Biden announced that the US would send $8 billion worth of weapons to Ukraine, including gliders, anti-aircraft missiles and an additional Patriot battery.

"But when this military aid ends, the fate of Ukraine will once again largely depend on the willingness of Congress to continue to replenish Zelensky's war chest," emphasizes the New York Times.

It is further stated that those American officials, who previously alerted the public before Zelensky's visit to Washington, omitted that part this time because a large part of the public, as well as officials, are angry that huge amounts of US taxpayers' money are being poured into the nuclear-affected country.

Also, a number of senators were angry with the Ukrainian president's visit because some Republicans said it showed favoritism for Democrats and the Biden administration.

The NYT then predicts that Zelensky would remain on thin ice if the Republicans, whom he harshly criticized, take full control of Congress and if former President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly expressed his opposition to arming Ukraine, wins the election.
