A dire threat was uttered: The world could face a catastrophe... Like never before
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the region is on the brink of a large-scale disaster due to escalating tensions between Israel and Hamas and warned that Tehran would not remain indifferent in the event of a war in Lebanon.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Araghchi said Israel had crossed "all red lines" and that the UN Security Council must intervene to restore peace and stability.
"To be honest. The region is on the brink of a full-scale disaster. If it is not stopped, the world will face catastrophic consequences like never before. Iran firmly maintains its inherent right to defend its vital interests," he stated.
Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon fired back, pointing out that Iran is to blame for this crisis.
"Every rocket fired by Hezbollah, every drone launched by Iranian proxies, every act of terrorism on foreign soil, leads to one source: the Islamic regime of Iran. That is the spider at the center of this web of violence, and until this web is completely dismantled, there can be no peace in the region," he said.
