Emergency services in the German city of Munich rushed to the scene after reports of gunfire. According to "Süddeutsche Zeitung", it happened in the city center, near the Israeli consulate.

"A major operation is currently taking place in the area around Brynnerstrasse and Karolinenplatz," Munich police reported on social network X.

Numerous emergency services are on the scene.

Police are asking people to avoid the area. "The helicopter is on its way to the NS-Dokuzentrum. From the air we might be able to see the current situation better," it says.

The German "Bild" reports that an unknown assailant fired several shots today in front of the Israeli consulate in Munich and the police shot the "suspicious person", and that part of the city was blocked off.

The incident occurred on the anniversary of the attack during the 1972 Olympics when Palestinian terrorists killed 11 Israeli athletes in Munich.
