"They told me after dinner"
US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris said a cease-fire agreement must be reached in the Gaza Strip, while stressing Israel's right to defend itself.
However, she emphasized that the Palestinian people suffered too many victims and sufferings in that conflict.
In an interview with CNN, Harris assessed that the administration of US President Joseph Biden managed to reduce illegal crossings of the Mexican-US border in recent months, as well as to "recover the economy" after the corona pandemic, including reducing the unemployment rate.
Earlier this year, Harris supported a Republican-Democratic border security deal that would have included hundreds of millions of dollars to build a border wall.
Trump has pressured congressional Republicans to overturn the deal, but Harris has vowed to sign it into law if elected. She emphasized that consensus is important, and in this regard she committed to include a Republican in her presidential cabinet, without mentioning a specific name.
Harris added that she would fulfill her promise to be president "for all Americans."
"I think it's important when making some of the most important decisions to have people at the table who have different opinions," Harris noted.
Speaking about incumbent President Joseph Biden's withdrawal from the re-election race, after which she became the Democratic nominee, Harris said the phone call informing her that Biden had withdrawn from the campaign found her with her family after they had dinner.
She assessed that Biden has the intelligence, commitment and judgment that the American people need and deserve to have in their president, while the Republican candidate Donald Trump has none of those qualities.
