Russians, are you in for a disaster? 60,000 soldiers...
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russian forces are trying to recapture Bakhmut in the Pokrovsk Raion, despite potential losses of up to 60,000 soldiers.
At a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday, Zelensky stated that the Russian army continues to exert pressure in the Pokrovsk reion of the Donetsk region, "they are probably trying to repeat the experience of conquering Bakhmut".
Zelensky suggested that Russian forces there could suffer as many as 60,000 casualties. "The Russians don't retreat there because they are shot at when they return. It's like in Bakhmut – they will lose 50,000 to 60,000 soldiers there, and you will see that soon," said the Ukrainian president.
Zelensky noted that after the start of the offensive in the Kursk region, the advance of Russian troops near Pokrovsk slowed down.
"Sometimes, where there are three brigades, it doesn't matter if there are three or five brigades; it matters who presses, in what quantity and what the fighters are capable of... They don't retreat there, and when they return, they are shot at. And they will continue to press. They need it, just like the situation in Bakhmut," added Zelensky.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, answering the questions of the journalists, confirmed Zelensky's words, as it were, and pointed out that one of the goals of the Kursk operation was to divert enemy forces from the Pokrovsk and Kurakhovo reions.
"Operation Kursk diverted a significant number of enemy forces. At this moment, we can confirm that about 30,000 soldiers have already been moved to the Kursk course. And this number is growing. Meanwhile, the enemy is trying to remove units from other directions. In the direction of Pokrovsk, on the contrary, they are increasing efforts," said Syrskyi.
