It's over: "Wagner" withdrew its army
The Russian military group "Wagner" announced today that its members are no longer fighting in Ukraine and are now engaged only in Africa and Belarus.
The statement said that the "Wagner" is not participating in a special military operation at this stage, Reuters reported, stating that it could not confirm that claim.
The group emphasizes that it will announce if there is a change in the situation.
On Sunday, Ukraine called on Belarus to withdraw forces it had deployed along the two countries' common border, saying they included Belarusian special forces and former members of the Wagner paramilitary group.
In Africa, "Wagner" is involved, among other things, in supporting the military junta in Mali.
The group was previously heavily involved in the war in Ukraine, and played a crucial role in the Russian capture of the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut in May 2023.
The founder of "Wagner", Yevgeny Prigozhin, led a short-lived unsuccessful rebellion against the Russian military leadership in June 2023, and died in a plane crash on August 23, 2023, northwest of Moscow.
