"Is Serbia your enemy? NATO alliance is an embarrassment of epic proportions..."
Today, NATO alliance doesn't offer the slightest guarantee of deterring existential danger that Greece faces from the east, on the contrary, it guarantees involvement in quarrels that do not concern it at all, said prominent Greek journalist Giorgos Harvalias.
In an author's text for the "Heleniskop" portal, he pointed out that the Alliance accepts countries that do not meet the basic democratic criteria and opens the door to Nazi regimes, while on the other hand, it presents Serbia, the only Greek ally, which was bombed by NATO itself, as its enemy.
We are quoting the author's text of Harvalias in its entirety:
"The national embarrassment of epic proportions in the waters of Kasos brought to the surface again a contentious question: Given the incompetence of our political staff, where could Greece look for support in the face of ongoing Turkish challenges to its national sovereignty? Perhaps in... NATO - It would be good to be aware of the reality so that we don't have false expectations.
The purpose of establishing NATO in 1949 was very specific. And legitimate. It began as an alliance of states of the free Western world, united before the specter of the threat of "red totalitarianism". And how Turkey got there is another matter, for which we are paying dearly today...
In any case, the reason for the establishment of the Atlantic Alliance was quite clear. Borders in Europe were certainly consolidated. And I am not at all sure that the Soviets had the intention and ability to break through and destroy the countries that were under the influence of the West. But the communist danger certainly existed.
We also experienced it in Greece, in the most terrible conditions of the fratricidal war. The alliance, therefore, had a clear anti-communist orientation. But not anti-Russian! They got a little confused along the way.
Faced with the need for an 'express pardon' of (West) Germany to act as a bulwark against Soviet expansionism, the Americans forgot about denazification. They basically forgot to punish Germany for her heinous crimes and helped her, by forgiving her debts, rebuild her economy to oppress the European south today through the corroded collective structures of the EU.
In the mid-1950s, the US gradually pushed the Germans into the Coalition and began filling NATO staff positions with all sorts of Nazi scum. Key Hitlerites and war criminals such as Adolf Heutzinger and Hans Spiedel, instead of being in Nuremberg and receiving the punishment they deserved, suddenly found themselves as generals of the newly formed West German Bundeswehr and senior NATO officials on the 'front line'.
Right at the height of the Cold War! Keep this in mind, for it goes a long way in understanding how the Alliance gradually drifted away from the obligations of its founding purpose, and instead of serving the values of democracy by protecting the Western world from real dangers and various threats, found itself engaged with an insidious goal: to promote a leadership position the American-German axis in the international arena, naming as an enemy anyone who could potentially think otherwise.
Today Russia, tomorrow China and so on. This perception is not far from the geostrategic worldview of Nazism. Especially if you take into account that according to the logic "the end justifies the means", the Alliance accepts countries that do not meet the basic democratic criteria, such as Turkey, North Macedonia or Albania, and opens the door to Nazi regimes, such as Zelensky.
Today, NATO is unable and unwilling to deal with the real threats facing the Western world, namely rampant illegal colonization, the threat of international terrorism, and the aggressive aspirations of radical Islam.
The Alliance also does not form any concept of right and wrong in conflicts between its members. It washes its hands and closes eyes before the powerful who impose their positions with blackmail and threats.
Unfortunately, we saw it very early, such July days half a century ago with 'Attila' in Cyprus. NATO's devastating inaction forced Konstantinos Karamanlis to withdraw the country from the alliance's military branch in protest. The same negativity was manifested in the Imia crisis.
Today, NATO does not offer the slightest guarantee of deterrence from the existential threat that Greece faces from the east. On the contrary, it offers a guarantee of the involvement of the country in disputes that do not concern it at all.
You don't have to be a Russophile to understand that the sensitivity shown in the Ukrainian case is extremely hypocritical and "a la carte" and has nothing to do with the correct side of history. Greece is also another NATO member.
The last time it exercised its right to equal participation was Karamanli's veto for Skopje. Today, all our potential enemies in the Balkans are inside and outside our only ally, Serbia, which was bombed by NATO itself!
In addition, Turkey controls and blackmails the entire Alliance as a regulatory agent imposing all sorts of whims. It is the only country that can and does "buy" weapons systems wherever it wants. And when it comes time to recruit, she plays "wisely neutral" and talks to everyone involved without anyone complaining.
By contrast, Greece, which offers enormous favors to NATO's modern design by opening accounts with traditional allies such as Russia, is treated as a poor (and... stupid) cousin.
When it comes time to get the "antidote" from the US, whose strategic goals it primarily serves at the enormous cost of its own armor (the infamous "voids"), it will find that it is loaded like the stalled Bradley destroyers that need... master Bob to go, the LCS that serve just for fishing and... tired C-130s that need a bag of cash to get back into service.
According to all this, one wonders exactly what values NATO promotes and serves and what benefits Greece has from membership in this organization.
If it is romantic to talk about the search for a third way (given that 'we are not Israel'), surely our politicians should explain to us how our participation in NATO rewards all our traditional enemies, isolates our old friends and ultimately us... it disarms us by giving a defense system paid for by the sweat of the Greek people to imaginary allies, such as Zelensky's Ukraine and mullah Saudi Arabia!"
