Urgent notice from Germany: Run
Germany urged its citizens to leave Lebanon immediately, saying air traffic could be suspended amid fears of an Israeli military response following a rocket attack by the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah on the Golan Heights.
"Further escalation of the situation and the spread of the conflict cannot be ruled out," said the statement of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which "urgently asked German citizens to leave Lebanon," according to Reuters.
It added that this particularly applies to the southern parts of Lebanon, including the urban areas of Beirut and the Beqaa Valley and Baalbek-Hermel district.
"Further escalation could also lead to the complete suspension of air traffic from Rafik Hariri Airport (in Beirut). It would then no longer be possible to leave Lebanon by air," the Ministry in Berlin said.
Earlier, Germany recommended its citizens not to travel to Israel and the Palestinian territories, where the war between Israeli forces and the Palestinian militant group Hamas has been ongoing since October 7.
Israel's security cabinet on Sunday authorized the government to respond to a rocket attack on the Golan Heights that killed at least 12 children and teenagers on Saturday, which Tel Aviv blamed on Hezbollah.
The group denied responsibility for the attack
