Russia is closely monitoring the situation: "We have to be patient"
Following US President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the US presidential race, the Kremlin said it would closely monitor the situation.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russian President Vladimir Putin characterized Biden as a predictable candidate, whom Russia prefers over Trump.
"The elections are in four months, and that is a long time during which a lot can change. We must be patient and carefully monitor what will happen next," said Peskov.
"Russia's priority is to achieve the goals of the war against Ukraine," the Kremlin spokesman emphasized.
President of the State Duma of Russia, Vyacheslav Volodin, demanded that Biden be held accountable.
"Biden has created problems around the world and in his own country, the United States," Volodin said.
He added that Biden should be "held responsible for causing the war in Ukraine, destroying the economies of European countries and for the policy of sanctions against Russia and other countries."
According to the Russian narrative, the West bears the blame for Russia's war against Ukraine.
