Charges dropped: Trump acquitted
The judge overseeing the case of illegal possession of classified documents, in which Donald Trump is suspected, has dismissed the case, citing the illegal appointment of special counsel Jack Smith.
Judge Aileen Cannon made the decision after a hearing in which the former president's legal team urged her to drop charges brought by special counsel Jack Smith, especially after the Supreme Court said the president has official immunity.
Trump's team has argued that he is the victim of selective prosecution and is being targeted by Democrats as he tries to regain the presidency.
By the way, Judge Cannon was appointed by Trump. She ruled that special counsel Jack Smith - who is leading the prosecution - was illegally appointed to the role and did not have the authority to prosecute the case.
