A serious threat: We are heading for a cold war
US decision to deploy long-range weapons in Germany is leading to a cold war, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"We are taking sure steps towards the Cold War, all that has already happened," Peskov said in a conversation led by journalist Pavel Zarubin, which was published on the journalist's Telegram channel, reports RIA Novosti.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergei Ryabkov said earlier today that the decision of the United States of America to deploy long-range missiles in Germany will not force Russia to enter an expensive arms race.
The Pentagon announced on Wednesday that the US will begin deploying long-range weapons on German territory from 2026.
These are anti-aircraft systems SM-6, Tomahawk cruise missiles and hypersonic weapons.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said today that the United States will deploy long-range systems in Germany on a rotational basis and noted that Washington's decision "will close a serious capability gap in Europe."
