The general ordered: Prepare for a great war
Poland must prepare its soldiers for a "large-scale conflict", said the Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces.
General Vislav Kukula announced that the number of soldiers on the country's eastern border will increase from 6,000 to 8,000 by August.
"Today we have to prepare our forces for a full-scale conflict, not an asymmetric type conflict," General Kukula said.
In May, Poland announced details of "Eastern Shield," a $2.5 billion program to strengthen defenses along its border with Belarus and Russia. Belarus and China held military exercises near the Polish border yesterday.
The border with Belarus has also been a flashpoint since migrants began arriving there in 2021.
Belarus has opened travel agencies in the Middle East, offering a new unofficial route to Europe.
The European Union responded that Minsk's move was deliberately designed to create a crisis.
At the end of last year, the Polish armed forces had about 190,000 members. They plan to increase this number to 300,000 within a few years.
