Horror in India: Stampede; At least 107 dead PHOTO/VIDEO
At least 107 people, mostly women, died today in a large stampede during a religious event in the Hathras district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
The stampede occurred while the religious preacher was addressing his followers in a specially erected tent in Rati Bhanpur village of Sikandra Rau area of Katras district, Hindustan Times reported.
According to the police, it appears that the lack of oxygen at the venue, on a very hot and humid day, caused discomfort among people attending the religious event and they began to flee in panic, leading to a stampede.
According to one of the survivors, the stampede occurred at the end of the religious gathering as everyone was in a hurry to leave the gathering place.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered emergency services to speed up aid delivery.
