Hamas: No one knows how many of them are alive
The spokesman and member of the political bureau of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, Osama Hamdan, said today that no one knows how many hostages in Gaza are still alive.
When asked if Hamas regrets the attack on southern Israel on October 7 last year, given the war that followed, Hamdan said that the attack on Israel was justified because it was a reaction against the occupation.
''The Israeli occupation is responsible for that. If you resist the occupation, they will kill you, but if you don't fight the occupation, they will also kill you and drive you out of your country. So what were we supposed to do, just wait?'', Hamdan asked from Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, in an interview with CNN.
Hamdan stressed the need for the US to convince the Israeli government to agree to a permanent cessation of fighting in Gaza.
