Tanks are approaching the humanitarian zone; They went deeper than ever
Israeli tanks pushed deeper into the western part of Rafah in one of the worst night-time bombardments from the air, land and sea, forcing many families to flee their homes and tents in the dark.
Residents said Israeli forces were advancing on the Al-Mawasi neighborhood near the beach, which has been marked as a humanitarian zone in all Israeli military communiqués and maps since the start of the Rafah offensive in May.
The Israeli army has denied carrying out any attacks in the area. Israel says its goal is to destroy the last remaining fighting forces of Hamas in Rafah, a city that has taken in more than a million refugees.
Most of these people have now moved north towards Khan Yunis and Deir Al-Balah in the central part of the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli military said it was continuing "targeted operations based on intelligence" in Rafah.
In the past 24 hours, the Israeli military has struck 45 targets across the Gaza Strip from the air, including military structures, militant cells, rocket launchers and tunnel shafts.
Meanwhile, efforts to reach a ceasefire continue, mediated by Qatar and Egypt, which are backed by the US.
Hamas welcomed the new US ceasefire proposal, but with some modifications, stressing that the agreement must ensure an end to the war and a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, which Israel continues to reject.
