An unexpected move by one of France's largest parties: We will join Le Pen
The leader of the "Republicans" (LR) party Éric Ciotti announced that this party is open to cooperation with the National Assembly led by Marine Le Pen, before the parliamentary elections to be held in France on July 7.
In a move that shocked many members of his party, which can be described as moderate right, Ciotti announced his support for the party led by Le Pen.
He explained his decision by the fact that his party is "too weak to resist the threats of the left and centrists in France", although the "silent consensus" among the main parties was not to cooperate with the National Alliance.
According to the latest polls for the July 7 elections, the National Alliance will have around 34 percent of support, while the left opposition has around 22 percent.
Renaissance, led by French President Emmanuel Macron, has about 19 percent, while LR, according to these polls, has about nine percent of support.
