Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is in a state of shock after she was attacked and punched by a man in central Copenhagen this evening, the police and Prime Minister's office said.

It is not clear whether Frederiksen was injured during the attack, according to Reuters.

The Danish news agency Ritzau reported that the attacker was arrested after the incident.

Danish Ministry of the Interior announced on Platform X that it was investigating the incident.

The ministry told the Danish television network DR that Prime Minister Frederiksen was shocked by the incident, and that they had no further comments.

Danish politicians, regardless of their political affiliation, are sending messages of support to the prime minister after she was attacked.

Danish Economy Minister Morten Bødskov assessed that the attack on the Prime Minister was "completely unreasonable" and "terrible".
